After a 10-year absence Tacala, the largest Taco Bell franchise operator, is bringing Taco Bell back to Columbiana, AL. Tacala, founded in Birmingham, AL in 1989 by Don Ghareeb and Dick Reese, opened their first Taco Bell 30 years ago in Columbiana, AL, and to celebrate this milestone they will open their 315th restaurant back where it all started.

“One of the key success criteria for quick-service restaurants is convenience and we have heard our superfans in Columbiana loud and clear that a 20-minute drive to other Shelby County Taco Bell restaurants is not convenient,” said Michael Border, Tacala Chief Development Officer, “So, we are excited to get back to our roots and open again in Columbiana.”

The brand-new Taco Bell will open at 218 W. College Street, Columbiana, AL.  The building will be approximately 2700 sq. ft. featuring Taco Bell’s Modern Explorer design with digital interior and drive thru menu boards, ordering kiosks and a patio dining area. They will hire 30 employees for this location.

Tacala hopes to open the restaurant before the end of the year, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night.

Tacala currently operates eight other Taco Bell restaurants in Shelby County including locations in Alabaster, Birmingham, Calera, Chelsea, Helena, Montevallo and Pelham.

Based in Birmingham, AL, Tacala operates over 300 Taco Bell restaurants in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina with a significant presence in each of its local markets employing over 7000 customer enthusiasts committed to the mission “To Lift and Feed the Human Spirit through Great Food, Exceptional Value, Uncommon Kindness”. Tacala is dedicated to giving back to their employees through education programs for their teams including internal development programs, access to fully-funded GED Certification, and opportunities to be awarded post-secondary education scholarships.  In partnership with the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens, Tacala is heavily invested in the communities where they do business through strong relationships with local Boys & Girls Clubs, and other teen serving organizations as well as contributing to Taco Bell’s Live Más Scholarships.
