Talk of Tacala

Live Like a Retiree

Dominique arrives at The Cantinas

Contrary to the status quo, Taco Bell believes in enjoying retirement long before the “golden years.” This is why Taco Bell created a unique experience this summer called, “The Cantinas,” designed to redefine the leisurely lifestyle associated with retirement. The Cantinas, an early retirement community pop up, was created to celebrate the laid-back spirit we all share, not just retirees. According to Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer, “The Cantinas early retirement community, just like our brand, represents a place where all generations can come together, regardless of age, to Live their Más however they want.” The craving for early retirement is so strong that memberships to The Cantinas sold out in under three minutes.  Tacala had representation at this experience so you get an “inside look” at how to embrace your inner retiree for a weekend in San Diego, California.

Dominique Williams, from Stillman Blvd. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama had the opportunity to attend The Cantinas by winning the raffle at the 2024 North Star Leadership Conference in Nashville. Dominique and the rest of the “retirees” stayed at the LaValle Coastal Club, a luxury resort in San Diego which was converted for the weekend to The Cantinas. She joined other attendees who were encouraged to go all out with country club/eclectic styles to have the complete immersive experience. The Cantinas had a variety of activities for people to choose from based on the attendee’s interest. These activities ranged from pickle-ball, to yoga, to painting, to swimming, to golf, and of course BINGO which was emceed by a legit retirement community host.

One of Dominique’s favorite parts of this experience was exploring this resort and the golf course in style on the themed golf carts.  She participated in several activities throughout her weekend. The most memorable was trying yoga for the first time. She may even continue it back in Alabama – namaste! There was a friendly pickle-ball competition which was another way that Dominique connected with other guests at the resort.

The Cantinas was open to both super fans and team members. Dominique met and connected with a wide variety of people from all over the country including other Restaurant Leaders from Taco Bells nationwide. They shared stories from their local communities an enjoyed the unlimited Taco Bell buffet stocked with all the classics as well as fan favorite throwback items!
