Taco Bell Returning to Southside

BIRMINGHAM, AL 7/31/2014 – Taco Bell is opening in Birmingham’s Southside after a seven year absence. The new freestanding location is scheduled to open for business on Sunday, August 3rd at 2124 7th Avenue South, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony and VIP “sneak peek” for Birmingham City officials on Friday, August 1st. The Southside location, which will cater to students and employees of the University and hospital, debuts a new building design that will complement the urban landscape. Tacala worked closely with Taco Bell Corporate and the Birmingham Design Review Committee to create the prototype, which will be the first of its design for the brand.

“We have been searching for the right property in this area since our previous Southside location closed seven years ago,” says Tim Morrison, President and COO of Tacala Companies. “As a Birmingham-based company, we feel it is important to have a presence downtown, especially in light of the growth and revitalization occurring in the city.”

Tacala, LLC previously operated a restaurant on Fifth Avenue South, but had to close the location in August 2007 to accommodate construction on the Children’s of Alabama parking lot. The return to Southside continues the tremendous growth of Tacala Companies, which currently operates 258 locations throughout the Southeast US and Texas. The company will open two additional restaurants in Alabama later this summer.
